After confirming eligibility, an applicant needed to review the CAC Arts Recovery Program Guidelines.

The CAC Arts Recovery program application is through an online process in conjunction with the Cultural Grants Online program at the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF).

Timeline

The California Arts Council will made the CAC’s Arts Recovery Grant applications available in July 2009, in conjunction with WESTAF’s Cultural Grants Online program. The California Arts Council coordinated with WESTAF in the application process to minimize duplication.

Reminder: Recovery Act Overview

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) was signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009, and recognized the nonprofit arts industry as an important sector of the economy. Fifty million dollars was approved to be distributed through the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to preserve jobs in the nonprofit arts sector.

Nonprofit arts organizations in California may receive NEA Recovery Act funds from only one source:

  • directly from the National Endowment for the Arts,
  • from a local arts agency (LAA) designated to operate on behalf of government agencies ,
  • from the California Arts Council (CAC), or
  • from the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF).

Also, the ARRA/NEA funding is directed to the:

  • Preservation of jobs
  • Reinstatement of lost jobs
  • Extension of contract jobs

For more details on the ARRA funding for the arts, see the NEA’s Arts Recovery website, and California’s Recovery CA page.
