Artist Call DetailBART Gallery
For International artists
Pop Up Underground, (PUU) invites proposals from artists to exhibit in our first ever gallery show on Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). The BART GALLERY will be a traveling exhibition of two-dimensional works, with a captive audience in the hundreds. This temporary installation will be hung and curated by an experienced curatorial team, and will be professionally documented with both video and still photography.
The team behind PUU includes a professional artist specializing in design and public art who has led a country-wide street art campaign, and a curator who has been working with international arts organizations for over a decade. Documentation will be provided by both a professional documentary filmmaker, as well as a number of professional photographers. For the sake of discretion, the PUU team will remain anonymous until the exhibition’s conclusion.
Acceptable formats for work include paintings, drawings, photography, collage, textile, prints and two dimensional new media. While we will make a concerted effort to return pieces to artists, we cannot guarantee this will be possible. For this reason, we will accept copies or duplicates of work. framed work is preferable, but for non-local artists, digital submission (to be printed on a large format inkjet) will be accepted (sent to SFBartGallery@gmail.com), as well as unframed two-dimensional works (to be framed in an inexpensive frame, probably from Ikea). frames will be hung with suction cups and magnets, so heavy work is not recommended, and may be rejected. Pieces should be no larger than 24 by 24 inches, and unframed work must be no larger than 11 by 17 inches. Submissions should be conceptualized with a public audience in mind, and must not include any vulgar, explicit or discriminatory content.
The BART GALLERY is a traveling exhibition and will move between Millbrae and Pittsburg/Bay Point starting at 5:00 on Friday March 6th.
The submission deadline is flexible and pieces must be in the hands of the curatorial team by Friday February 27th. Please send any questions to SFBartGallery@Gmail.com.
