For International artists
This is an update for our original Call for Entries.
Barbara Williamson, and Anne Copeland, Editors, are seeking physically challenged fiber artists for an upcoming book highlighting the works and lives of physically challenged artists working in some way with fiber arts (publication date: 2013).
Barbara Williamson is a paraplegic fiber artist who serves as Secretary of the Board for Fiberarts Connection of Southern California, and who has been an active voice for the physically challenged for years. Despite living in two distant parts of California and never having met in person, the two founded a permanent and mutual friendship that continues to grow through the years.
Anne Copeland founded Fiber Arts Connection of Southern California, a Nonprofit 501(c)(3) in 2003 to assist physically challenged and emerging artists with getting exposure, and also to teach them professional development. Anne's brother is 100% disabled since a brain tumor developed during the Vietnam War, and a later spinal injury. Anne also is disabled from spinal problems and from neuropathy of the feet, hands and right knee. She has served as a paraeducator for developmentally challenged children and young adults for years, and has served as a volunteer with organizations that serve the physically/developmentally challenged.
This is a juried call for entries. You MUST be legitimately physically challenged. We would like stories that include how you came to be disabled and how it affects your ability to create your art. What adaptations (if any) have you needed to make to your equipment, techniques and/or materials in order to be considered. We would also like a statement on how your art has helped you, and whether your goals include being professional, entering exhibits, teaching, etc. We are looking to provide inspiration for the readers in the stories, and I am sure most of your stories will be very inspirational. If anyone helps you with your art, be sure to include the person's name and something about that person. The bio and your story can be up to 6,500 words total. We also need 4 - 5 high-resolution digital images of your art pieces (. jpgs or. tifs), and a detail shot for each quilt (we might not use all the detail shots), along with the names, sizes, and techniques for each piece. We would also like a photo of you and any helper or other person who is involved in some way with the making of the art pieces. The quality of the digital images is extremely important. You may send your entries via e-mail or by CD. Late entries will not be accepted.
We need your full contact information: Snail mail address, e-mail address, phone, and any web site or blog you might have.
The deadline for submission is January 31. Please submit all entries with digital images, etc. via e-mail to Anne Copeland, firstname.lastname@example.org or you may submit your entry on CD via mail to Anne Copeland, 35080 Chandler Ave., Sp. 55, Calimesa, CA 92320. My phone is 909.273.9176 for any questions.
