Helpful Websites There are many organizations and informational web pages available to the public for more information. Below are some suggestions from the California Arts Council. Also see our informational pages on arts education, list and links to local arts agencies in California through our State-Local Partnership program, and current postings in The Grantfinder, Arts in the Media, Arts Insider News, Arts Happen, Arts Inform, and Art Beat, our eNewsletter. Americans for the Arts: the nation's leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America. Art IS Education: a county-wide network of school district and arts organization professionals convened by the Alameda County Office of Education. The website provides additional resources that can be helpful beyond the greater Alameda County area. Arts Education Partnership: a national coalition of arts, education, business, philanthropic and government organizations that demonstrate and promote the essential role of the arts in the learning and development of every child and in the improvement of America's schools. California Alliance for Arts Education: promotes, supports, and advocates visual and performing arts education for preschool through post-secondary students in California schools. California Department of Education: website of the lead state agency for K-12 public schools. Click on “Curriculum & Instruction” and then “Visual & Performing Arts.” California Parent-Teachers’ Association: the oldest and largest statewide nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to working on behalf of issues that affect children and families. Search for “SMARTS” for their “Bring Back the Arts” content. Innerspark--California Summer School for the Arts: high-school program created by the State of California to provide intensive training in the arts. James Irvine Foundation: major California foundation and funder for nonprofit organizations, including the arts and arts education. Keep Arts in Schools: national arts education advocacy website supported by the Ford Foundation and administered by Douglas Gould and Company (NY). L.A. County Arts Commission: county-based local government entity that fosters excellence, diversity, vitality, understanding and accessibility of the arts in Los Angeles County. The website provides additional resources that can be helpful beyond the greater Los Angeles area. Music for All Foundation: a national music education organizations in support of active music-making and committed to expanding the role of music and the arts in education, to heightening the public’s appreciation of the value of music and arts education, and to creating a positive environment for the arts through societal change. National Association of State Arts Agencies: the membership organization that unites, represents and serves the nation's state and jurisdictional arts agencies. National Endowment for the Arts: the nation’s public agency dedicated to supporting excellence in the arts, both new and established; bringing the arts to all Americans; and providing leadership in arts education. Poetry Out Loud: website for the popular national high-school poetry recitation competition. Includes list of poets, biographical information and a comprehensive list of poetry available for the competition, as well as additional content. Useful for students, teachers and literature lovers, even those not participating in the competitions. Public Broadcasting System (PBS): a media enterprise that serves 355 public noncommercial television stations and reaches nearly 73 million people each week through on-air and online content. Click on “PBSkids” or “PBSparents” for activities, advice, etc. State Local Partners/County Arts Organizations: Local arts agencies designated by County Boards of Supervisors to develop and sustain the arts and culture of local communities. The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation: California foundation based in Menlo Park that concentrates its resources on activities in education, environment, global development, performing arts, and population. Western States Arts Federation: a nonprofit arts service organization dedicated to the creative advancement and preservation of the arts. Based in Denver, CO, and supported by is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts; the state arts agencies of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming; private and corporate foundations; and individuals.
