Arts Events There are many conferences, conventions, trainings and workshops for arts administrators, educators and artists in California. The California Arts Council’s website helps provide information on these events. Traditional Arts Grants Workshop - Los Angeles Los Angeles Date: 05-15-2008 The Alliance for California Traditional Arts (ACTA) invites artists and organizations to a workshop on applying for ACTA funds this year. The San Francisco Bay Area Arts Town Hall Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Date: 06-09-2008 Artists, arts administrators, funders, arts agencies and cultural policymakers from around the Bay Area are invited to attend the San Francisco Bay Area Arts Town Hall on Monday June 9, 2008, from 12:30 to 8:30 pm. Admission is free, but advanced registration is required. The SFBA Arts Town Hall is being sponsored in part by: Center for Cultural Innovation, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, San Francisco Arts Commission, San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs, and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. National Performing Arts Convention Denver, CO Date: 06-10-2008 thru 06-14-2008 "Taking Action Together" is the theme of the 2008 National Performing Arts Convention (NPAC). NPAC will lay the foundation for future cross-disciplinary collaborations, cooperative programs and effective advocacy. Organized by discipline, the fields of dance, music, opera, theater and others have been supported by national service organizations that provide a range of leadership and support services as needed by the respective fields. These services have included professional development in the areas of management, governance, and artistry; strategic re-granting in support of education and audience development projects; new work; research; technology; communications, and many others. The combined effort of local arts organizations and their partner national service organizations has resulted in an exponential growth in the number of producing and presenting organizations and audiences. Americans for the Arts Annual Conference Philadelphia, PA Date: 06-20-2008 thru 06-22-2008 This year's annual conference from Americans for the Arts is titled "American Evolution: Arts in the New Civic Life," and will take place on June 20-22 in Philadelphia, PA. Ten advanced workshops for attendees will be on June 19, and the keynote speaker on June 21 is Andrew Zolli, futurist-in-residence for American Demographics magazine, Popular Science, National Geographic, and National Public Radio's Marketplace. Lincoln Center Institute National Educator Workshops (California location) Costa Mesa, Orange County Date: 06-23-2008 thru 06-27-2008 Have you always wanted to take a workshop for the arts by the famed Lincoln Center, but thought it was too tough or expensive to spend time in New York? Now the Lincoln Center is coming to California. The Lincoln Center Institute National Educator Workshop is designed for pre-K through grade 12 teachers, school or arts administrators, teaching artists, curriculum developers, and college and university professors. The California workshop will take place in Orange County in conjunction with South Coast Repertory and the Chapman University School of Education. Tuition cost is $550; certification available. Registration for workshops must be received by June 6, 2008, and workshops in certain locations are expected to fill to capacity sooner than others. A.E.P. National Symposium Washington, DC Date: 06-24-2008 This one-day symposium will engage participants in an interactive discussion of major advances in arts education that have occurred since the Arts Education Partnership was founded, and is recommending areas of focus and actions needed to advance the field in the future. Arts LINC (Arts and Literacy in Nebraska and California) San Diego Date: 06-25-2008 thru 06-27-2008 An Arts Education Model Development and Dissemination Project is hosting a three-day outreach, June 25-27, 2008 in San Diego. The event is co-sponsored by the San Diego Natural History Museum. The focus is on integrated literacy instruction with the arts and science. Space is limited. Arts Day at the California State Fair Sacramento Date: 08-23-2008 The California State Fair celebrates its fourth annual "Arts Day at the California State Fair" on Saturday, August 23, at Cal Expo in Sacramento. Arts Day at the California State Fair includes performances by music, dance and theater groups; visual arts organizations will have hands-on activities for kids. There will also be the annual "Golden Bear Awards" to Californians who have made significant contributions to the visual, literary and performing arts. Previous Golden Bear recipients include visual artists Wayne Thiebaud, Gregory Kondos, and Helen and Alan Post. California Arts Day California - Various Locations Date: 10-03-2008 This year marks the eighth annual California Arts Day--the first Friday in October--celebrating the important role the arts and creativity play in our state. California Arts Day coincides with National Arts and Humanities Month, and the California Arts Council encourages kids, adults and communities around the state to get involved in the arts through schools, events and arts-related organizations.
