The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) is seeking applications for a regular full-time Production Manager who will support all Concert Office activities including, but not limited to, managing and implementing technical requirements of all performance venues, producing performance and educational events, managing and executing classroom and performance venue set-ups, tracking departmental accounting, and supervising a staff of student front-of-house and stage crew employees. The anticipated start date for this position is March 1, 2018.
The Production Manager will ensure the smooth and safe operation of all SFCM performances and events, both on and off-site; provide friendly and professional production and technical support for performances, operas, workshops, and special events; solicit, track, and fulfill concert and event requests from faculty, staff, students, and renters; and maintain performance facilities and equipment. The incumbent will also recruit, train, and supervise on-call student performance staff and set up crew for approximately 550 events annually; coordinate theatrical lighting maintenance and rentals; assist with recruiting, training, and supervising freelance theatrical lighting technicians when needed; manage and coordinate external requests for the use and rental of SFCM spaces; and maintain the department budget in conjunction with the Director of Production and Ensembles. The incumbent will perform additional duties as assigned.
The Production Manager at SFCM must have demonstrated knowledge of stage requirements for a variety of music ensembles, particularly in the Western Classical and jazz traditions; a background in concert and theater production; and the ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects at any one time with superior attention to detail. The incumbent must be a clear and effective communicator who can solve issues astutely and efficiently, with the ability to collaborate with a wide variety of individuals in a multi-cultural environment. S/he will have the capacity to simultaneously coordinate multiple projects and work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends; train and manage a crew of student workers; and take initiative and implement process improvements in collaboration with the production team. This position will require lifting to 25 lbs. A Bachelor's degree is preferred, and familiarity with the Strand and ETC Lighting System is a plus.
