DEFINITION

Blue Line Arts seeks a friendly, professional self-motivated Development Associate to work with staff to benefit the mission and vision of our organization effectively.  Our staff works with an active volunteer Board of Directors, good community support, and a history of programs and strategic partnerships advancing the organization’s goals for over fifty years.

The Development Associate reports directly to the Executive Director and would be responsible for sustaining and developing donor contributions, membership, donor cultivation, fundraising events and oversee a proactive, multi-tiered fund development strategy to benefit the organization and its goals.  This position will perform administrative and clerical duties as applicable.

General Job Characteristics

Position Summary: BLA’s Development Associate provides a wide-range of fund development activities under the direction of the Executive Director and Board of Directors coordinating the donor giving, fundraising, annual fund, sponsorship initiatives and events, as well as membership campaigns.  S/he conducts development research and drafts collateral materials, administers correspondence with individual donors including members and maintains FundRaiser donor software database, and provides statistical reports on developmental and membership activities.

The development associate will work actively with our fundraiser database including data input, data integrity, report generation, and analysis.  Prior experience with fundraiser or other fundraising database is desirable.

In addition, this position requires a working knowledge of art, art galleries, general clerical procedures, including a working knowledge of computers, Gmail, Word, Excel and Publisher, as well as online entry programs, email marketing, website updates and social networks. 

This position is expected to solve independently a variety of problems relating to the guest issues and clerical functions without immediate supervision.  This position is designated as confidential and requires a friendly, enthusiastic and professional demeanor in all aspects of the job, especially in matters of art sales, donations, grants and contractual information.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Oversee donor acknowledgement protocol – preparation of thank you letters and tax letters;
  • Maintain the membership/donor database and prepare regular reports for ED;
  • Schedule meetings and develop relationships in the support of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors – including meetings with key players (Board Leadership, Leaders in business and government);
  • Prepare research material for donors in support of Executive Leadership;
  • Coordination of Development and Fundraising programs and events, working closely with volunteers;
  • Steward member and donor relationships throughout the year with outreach and acknowledgement;
  • Prepare presentation materials; coordinate the production of promotional materials;
  • General administrative support of Executive Director with an emphasis on fund development;
  • Provide administrative support for committees and volunteer leaders; and
  • Occasional relief coverage at the front desk.

Qualifications:

  • Superb interpersonal skills, customer service and telephone etiquette;
  • Tech-savvy, problem solver;
  • Strong computer skills (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and basic finance/accounting skills are a must, advanced data manipulation skills preferred;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Must be extremely dependable and able to work quickly and accurately with a keen attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and multi-task projects in order to meet deadlines and manage activities Discretion and ability to handle confidential information is essential, as is the ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Experience working with membership and/or fundraising database programs is highly desirable;
  • 2+ years’ experience in development role or executive assistant to development executive.

Other:

Must be able to lift inventory and equipment weighing 25 lbs.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Experience: A minimum of 2 years development, customer service or sales experience and basic knowledge of development functions.  Nonprofit, museum, or academic institution experience is beneficial. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, accuracy to complete tasks in a timely manner is essential. Exercise good judgement in working with internal and external constituencies.

Ability to: Display professed enthusiasm for all forms of the arts– familiarity with non-profit arts and culture in Placer County, articulate in current art issues, including public art, art education or regional art programs.

  • Professionalism: each applicant must be pro-active, responsible and reliable.
  • Computer literacy: PC or Mac experience is preferred –Microsoft Word and Excel, Internet mass e-mailing systems.
  • Ability to type no less than 35 words per minute.
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, spelling and grammar, ability to read and write English
  • Perform light physical effort lifting up from 10 – 25 lbs, bending stooping and light walking required.
  • Knowledge of modern office methods and practices including filing, reception, telephone and computers

Education/Training Requirements

University undergraduate degree or relevant and comparable experience

A valid California Driver's License is required.   

  • Status: Full time, 40 hours. Requires some weekend and evening hours to support organization functions.
  • Benefits: Medical, 12 paid holidays, sick and vacation time; on-site parking, discounts in gallery store.

Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday - 9 AM to 5 PM with occasional weekends and evening event related duties.

Salary: $30,000 - $40,000; Commensurate with experience.
