DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP AND LEADERSHIP GIFTS

The Music Center’s Advancement Department is currently in search of a Director of Membership and Leadership Gifts.

The Director of Membership and Leadership Gifts reports to the Assistant Vice President for Development and leads The Music Center’s leadership gifts efforts and membership programs, including Center Dance Arts (CDA) and The Music Center Leadership Council (MCLC).  These membership organizations collectively raise over $800,000 annually.

The Director will be charged with increasing the total number of individual donors who support The Music Center’s core unrestricted, dance and education programs.  This position works closely with volunteer leadership within each program to reach annual revenue and participation goals as well as with the Director of Events and Special Projects on the execution of events related to those programs. 

The Director will be an individual with a rich and diverse development background, preferably in the performing arts, who has a strong track record of successful program and volunteer management.  The Director manages one full-time position. 

Principal Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain a personal portfolio of 40-50 leadership gift prospects to cultivate, solicit and steward.
  • In partnership with the annual fund and major gifts team, identify and cultivate members to become major donors to dance, education and community programming.
  • Provide primary oversight and guidance to the volunteer leadership for CDA and MCLC.
  • Create and implement a comprehensive solicitation, stewardship and events plan in coordination with volunteer leadership.
  • Develop and implement short and long-term strategies to renew and increase support from current and lapsed leadership gift donors with giving between $1,000-$10,000.  Solicitation methods include volunteer asks, direct mail, e-communications and event sponsorships.
  • Work closely with volunteer leadership to identify and acquire new donors and grow the middle donor giving range.
  • Maintain bi-monthly financial and stewardship reports to further enhance donor cultivation and predict areas for increased giving, assess performance and track financial progress.
  • Manage bi-monthly volunteer board meetings including the production of meeting materials, rosters, bylaws and other documents as needed.
  • Create and implement annual communications plan including appeals, brochures, acknowledgments, event invitations, event sponsorship recognition, e-blasts, website content, social media and Performances magazinepages.
  • Manage renewal and seat exchange requests for donors included in dance subscription renewal campaign.
  • Oversee maintenance of membership constituency codes and individual donor records in Tessitura, and accuracy of mailing lists and publication listings.
  • Manage and monitor income and expenses on a monthly basis.
  • Special projects and additional duties as assigned.
  • Mentor and oversee the work of the Advancement Coordinator in support of the major gifts team.

 Required Qualifications and desired skills include:

  • Bachelor’s degree with six or more years of experience in development, preferably in the arts.  Dance background and/or interest a plus. 
  • Strong volunteer management experience and a track record of successful project management.
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required.
  • Sound judgment and superior problem solving ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively about engaging donors and develop plans of action to deepen their involvement and engagement with the organization.
  • Knowledge and experience with membership group strategies.
  • Proven track record in planning and achieving short and long term goals.
  • Ability to project and assess participation rates and fundraising goals.
  • Integrity and fiscal accountability.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and in an energetic and changing environment.
  • Leadership and team-building skills.  Ability to train, inspire and motivate staff and volunteers.
  • Ability and willingness to personally solicit gifts.
  • Willingness to work some nights and weekends.
  • Solid relationship-building skills, able to interface with external and internal constituents.    

Salary range: is commensurate with experience.
