POSITION: Gallery Attendant
SEASONAL PART-TIME NON EXEMPT (September 8 - December 17, 2017)

Wednesday: 11 am - 5 pm
Thursday: 11 am - 8 pm
Friday: 11 am - 5 pm
Saturday: 11 am - 5 pm
Sunday: Noon - 5 pm
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations, Exhibitions Manager
Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara is hiring Gallery Attendants to support one of three locations of the exhibition Guatemala from 33,000 Km. This ambitious exhibition opens to the public September 16, 2017 as a part of the Getty Museum's PST: LA/LA initiative and showcases more than 50 contemporary Guatemalan artists over three locations in Santa Barbara. One of those locations will require additional staffing during all of the museum's regular hours. Gallery Attendants will open and close the location, ensure the security of the art works at the location during their shift, and attend to exhibition visitors. Training is provided.
Reliable, trustworthy, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision
Must have the ability to interact effectively with diverse staff, members, supporters, and community in a courteous and professional manner
Demonstrate good decisions and sound judgment
Passion for art and culture
Customer service experience preferred
Basic comfort level with technology
Applicants must be able to commit to a minimum of 2 days, 4 shifts, or 12 hours a week
Applicants should be available to attend day-time trainings on 9/8, 9/13, and 9/15
Applicants should be able to commit from September 8 - December 17, 2017
Engage visitors in exploration of the exhibition
Share information about MCASB, the exhibition, and the artworks
FACILITY AND EXHIBITION SECURITY
Open and close the exhibition, unlocking and locking facility, turning lights on and off, etc.
Complete daily Exhibition Checklist and provide reports to supervisors
Ensure the security of the artwork during shift
Gallery Attendants will frequently work unsupervised. Position requires both sitting and standing for lengths of time, as well as walking. Minimal lifting. Must have reliable transportation between MCASB main space and exhibition location.
This is a seasonal, grant-funded position. Compensation is $11/hr. Employees are eligible for 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, after 30 days worked, up to 24 hours total. No other benefits apply.
