JOB TITLE: Chuck Jones Center for Creativity Teaching Artist
REPORTS TO:  Program Director
SALARY RANGE: Compensation: commensurate with experience paid on an hourly basis
NUMBER OF POSITIONS: Multiple part-time positions

JOB SUMMARY: The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity (CJCC) Teaching Artist is responsible for group instruction and/or private lessons, within a discipline, and assisting in curriculum and planning. Programs can occur anytime throughout the day. They can be held at the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity in Costa Mesa or off-site at a different location. Details of the programs will be organized in advance by the Program Director. The Teaching Artist will be the main instructor for the classroom setting. He or she will ensure that each student receives excellent instruction, aid in the development of curriculum that supports the goals of CJCC.



  • Instruct group and/or private lessons
  • Contribute to developing lesson plans to challenge students and encourage creativity
  • Maintain a healthy and creative learning environment
  • Collaborate with other staff and the director to develop curriculum and set learning and performance benchmarks that are shared by the entire faculty
  • Inspire student to develop their creativity, self-confidence, focus and ability
  • Knowledge of current state curriculum standards and an ability to link them with teaching practice (if applicable if teaching K-12 programs)
  • Developmental capabilities of their students, and child development in general (if applicable if teaching toddler through grade 12 programs)


  • Keep an accurate log of student attendance and each group or private lesson taught
  • Collaborate in managing inventory, maintenance and upkeep of CJCC supplies and materials
  • Assist in recruitment and retention strategies
  • Work with assessment tools to ensure continual progress, success, and growth of the program overall


  • Serve as the highest example of an artist and personal standards
  • Meet with the Program Director, as needed
  • Cultivate and nurture a healthy working relationship with CJCC staff and volunteers
  • Establish and maintain open channels of communication between faculty, students, families, and the community
  • Provide pictures and quotes of your classes, to be posted to the website and social media outlets

DISCIPLINES: Painting on canvas, pastels, drawing, mixed media, etc

REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidates will have formal training and/or in-depth knowledge in your discipline. A bachelor’s and/or master’s is preferred but not required if equivalent experience can be shown. In addition, each candidate needs to be comfortable creating, supporting, and maintaining a structured and disciplined classroom environment. This position also requires the following qualities:
