Executive Director
Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra

Los Angeles, CA

The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) seeks an innovative leader and strategic thinker for their next Executive Director. Founded in 1968 and proclaimed “America’s finest chamber orchestra” by Public Radio International, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra has established itself among the world’s top musical ensembles as a preeminent interpreter of historical masterworks and a champion of contemporary composers. With the belief that classical music is a joy to be shared by everyone, through its educational and community programs and unique collaborations with other arts organizations, LACO reaches thousands of community members, students and families throughout Los Angeles each year, nurturing future musicians and composers as well as inspiring a love of classical music. To learn more about LACO, please see www.laco.org.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is the administrative leader of LACO and responsible for providing the vision, strategic direction and oversight of the organization’s resources to ensure success in carrying out its mission. The Executive Director will work in conjunction with the Board of Directors and the Music Director to ensure LACO’s financial and operational stability and maintain its artistic excellence. He/She will oversee an annual budget of approximately $4 million and a total of 17 staff. The ideal candidate will be creative, conceptual and collaborative and possess exceptional interpersonal skills and have the ability to interact effectively with staff, musicians, Board members, community members, and collaborating institutions. The Executive Director should also be a revenue enhancer and relationship builder with strong fundraising and marketing skills. He/She must be comfortable with public visibility and be an effective public speaker, projecting energy and enthusiasm.  Prior nonprofit leadership experience is preferred. A strong interest or passion for classical music, including contemporary classical music, is critical. Although previous experience in the arts is not required, experience working in a collegial relationship with a music director or an artistic director would be a plus. Prior successful fundraising, marketing/branding and Board relations experience is expected and essential.
