General Accountant
San Francisco Playhouse

In addition to our Mainstage Season, which produces six shows over 46 weeks, we actively engage in the community through our Rising Stars education program and support young professionals in the industry through our Sandbox Series of World Premieres.

Position Overview:

Reports directly to Producing Director.  Serves as principal support for all financial and accounting operations at San Francisco Playhouse. Works closely with Administrative Manager (Accounts Payable, Payroll).

Finances

  • Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal and state funders, foundations, and board of directors; oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements
  • Coordinate the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and CPAs; assess any changes necessary.
  • Administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status
  • Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions
  • Execute semi-monthly bank deposits
  • Maintain necessary payroll tracking
  • Reconcile all bank, investment, and credit card accounts monthly
  • Reconcile all box office reports
  • Report on total production expenses for Production Department
  • Coordinate with and solve any problems related to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable:
    • check requests and petty cash
    • expense reports for debit, credit and cash expenses
    • quarterly sales tax returns
    • copies and filing of all incoming checks
    • credit card charges for incoming subscriptions, donations or ticket sales
    • semi-monthly bank deposits
    • VBO, authorize.net & paypal deposits
    • cash income from concessions & box office
    • royalties reports
  • Coordinate with Payroll as needed for:
    • time sheets and weekly payroll
    • payroll taxes
    • payroll reports for union and non-union actors
  • Assist Administrative Manager as needed with additional projects

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Finance, Accounting or related field)
  • Advanced Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong Quickbooks Experience
  • Excellent with Numbers
  • Keen Attention to Detail
  • Self-Starter who can meet deadlines independently
  • Salesforce experience a plus
  • Quick Learning Curve for Software Programs and Procedures alike

Hours: 24 – 32/week

Schedule: Mon, Wed, Fri preferred

Status: Part-Time, Hourly; Non-Exempt

Compensation: $15 – 20 per hour (DOE)
