An affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and AAM accredited, the Japanese American National Museum ( is recognized as one of the nation’s premier cultural museums. In 2010 the Japanese American National Museum received America’s highest honor for museums, the federal IMLS National Medal. The National Museum is located adjacent to the Metro Gold Line in the historic Little Tokyo/arts district in downtown Los Angeles, a neighborhood that has experienced an exciting revitalization with diverse new restaurants, shops, luxury apartments, and nightlife.

The Facilities/Security Manager is responsible for managing the around-the-clock aspects of all facilities/operations and security needs. Facilities includes oversight and care of a 1925 Historic Building, which has been designated as a historic site (33,000 sq. ft.), a 1999 Museum Pavilion (138,000 sq. ft.) and a 2005 Forum/auditorium addition (10,000 sq. ft.). This position will require some early morning, evening and weekend hours. 

Bachelor’s degree; Experience in construction/facilities management and/or civil engineering preferred. Minimum 5 years related experience in a facilities management setting of a comparable size institution required, museum experience highly desired. Experience in construction management, project management, budget development/monitoring/reporting, and cost/schedule monitoring required. Ability to recognize, analyze, and develop corrective actions regarding cost, schedule, and quality issues. Ability to work in a team environment with all levels of Staff, Volunteers, Board and visitors is required. Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
