Corporate Giving Officer
Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco

The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (the de Young and Legion of Honor) are seeking a Corporate Giving Officer. The Corporate Giving Officer is responsible for researching, identifying, cultivating, and soliciting corporations and corporate foundations to fund general operations, exhibition, education, conservation and other museum programs. Additionally, this position stewards relationships with corporate funders to support the mission and program needs of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Director of Development and Director of Advancement and Engagement in supporting corporate fundraising goals for special exhibitions, education and public programs, and other projects as determined. 
  • Actively develops and implements corporate fundraising strategies and efforts, including gaining support for sponsorship of special exhibitions and events, support for museum education and public programs, and annual memberships in the Business Council. 
  • Identifies, researches, cultivates, and solicits new and existing corporate partners and emerging business leadership for gifts at all levels. 
  • Stewards relationships; maintains and expands professional contacts with corporate sponsorship and grant-making officers. 
  • Monitors proposal deadlines, develops, writes, and presents highly competitive, compelling corporate sponsorship proposals, grant applications, and renewals. 
  • Determines appropriate sponsorship benefits and recognition, coordinating delivery of benefits and providing excellent stewardship to all corporate partners. 
  • Coordinates appropriate follow-up with funders and monitors tracking systems for proposals, reports, and grant renewals. 
  • Collaborates with the Museums' executive, curatorial, event, educational, marketing, publications, and finance offices to fulfill corporate giving goals and partnerships. 
  • Manages all corporate grant and sponsorship administration among various museum departments, including timely and regular in-house and external reporting. 
  • Staffs Corporate Partnership Committee of the Board of Trustees. Works with development staff and trustees to identify and cultivate corporate contacts.
  • Maintains the corporate giving budget, ensures database accuracy, and tracks revenue. 
  • Manages Business Council.
  • Regularly attends relevant museum events such as Development recognition and cultivation events, Business Council events, and civic affair events as an ambassador for FAMSF. 
  • Identifies and makes necessary contacts to develop excellent working relationships with foundation and government grant makers.  

Minimum Qualifications: 

Education: Bachelor's Degree 

Work Experience: A minimum of three years of fundraising experience with special skills in corporate and foundation development. 

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of corporate fundraising principles, techniques, and ethics.      
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Bay Area businesses, executives, corporate giving practices, and foundations desirable.
  • Experience developing effective strategies for cultivation and solicitation of corporate grants and sponsorships.
  • Highly motivated and well-organized, able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining schedules and meeting deadlines, and a progressive record of achievement in fundraising.
  • Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills; strong follow through; high-level analytical, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to understand and effectively articulate the mission and future plans of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; to motivate and interact effectively with Board, volunteers, donors, and museum staff at all levels.
  • Experience researching, analyzing, and organizing information into appropriate and effective formats for proposal and project use.
  • High level of tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to balance sponsors' objectives and the Museums' interests.
  • Interest in fine art and art history preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Raiser's Edge and Salesforce CRM.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed to attend relevant events and meet proposal deadlines.

The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco are the city's largest public arts institutions and comprise the de Young and the Legion of Honor museums. The de Young, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and located in Golden Gate Park, showcases American art from the 17th through the 21st centuries, international contemporary art, textiles and costumes, and art from the Americas, the Pacific, and Africa. The Legion of Honor displays a collection of over 4,000 years of ancient and European art including Auguste Rodin's The Thinker and houses the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts in a Beaux-Arts style building overlooking Lincoln Park and the Golden Gate Bridge.
