The mission of the PMCA is to present the breadth of California art and design through exhibitions that explore the cultural dynamics and influences that are unique to California. With both historic and contemporary exhibitions, the Museum celebrates in equal measure the plein air painters inspired by the state’s mountains and deserts as well as today’s artists who create new work and site-specific installations. As a non-collecting institution, the Museum develops temporary exhibitions with independent curators, which allows for flexible and dynamic programming. The PMCA is a small non-profit museum that opened its doors in 2002. Located in the heart of Pasadena’s historic Playhouse District, the Museum is a vital cultural venue in Los Angeles. Diverse education and outreach programs engage a broad community comprised of all ages and incomes. PMCA members come from as far as Northern California.
