Ceramic Sculpture Instructor

The City of Manhattan Beach seeks to hire a Ceramic Sculpture Instructor.

The Ceramics Studio at Live Oak Park, Manhattan Beach, offers a variety of classes, workshops and programs for children and adults in the discipline of Ceramics.

We are currently looking for an experienced Ceramic Sculpture Instructor, capable of teaching adult classes with an emphasis on figurative sculpture.

This is a contract position wherein the instructor is paid a percentage of each student's class fee.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A BA or BFA in Ceramics or Sculpture. Work experience may be considered in leu of this degree.
  • Minimum 3-5 years teaching experience of  figurative sculpture to adults.
  • Understanding of cone 10 ceramics principles, firing techniques and basic trouble shooting. 

About our classes:

We offer four sessions of once weekly classes, running 10 weeks long in Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. Each class meets for 3 hours, once a week. 

Students enrolled in classes receive one bag of clay as a part of their class fee and are able to purchase additional supplies as necessary.

Instructors are responsible for developing appropriate class curriculum and delivering the information to the students in a timely, comprehensive and inclusive manner.

Firings and studio maintenance are performed by staff lab techs and studio monitors.
