Early Years Music Instructor
San Diego Children's Choir

Job Description

The Early Years music instructor is responsible for 7–15 children per class for Early Years (age 4–5 years) and Introductory Choir (age 6–7 years) at a school or community location in once-weekly, 45-minute long classes. Sessions are eight weeks long and occur three times throughout the year. The music instructor will educate and inspire the children, teaching songs along with basic theory techniques (beat vs. rhythm, dynamics, etc.), basic sight-reading skills, proper vocal technique and performance etiquette. Early Years is an introductory, non-performing choral-based music education experience for the four and five year-old child. Group and independent singing is introduced through purposeful play and interactive music making, incorporating games, dancing, and rhythm instruments. Introductory Choir is a non-performing, choral-based music education experience for the K–1st grade.

Qualifications

The music instructor should have experience in level 1 Orff and Kodaly along with music literacy and vocal skills to develop the healthy, young child voice. Spanish speaking ability is a plus.
