Marketing Associate

POSITION: Marketing Associate
REPORTS TO: Director of Marketing
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, Full Benefit Package          
COMPENSATION: Commensurate with experience

San Jose Jazz (SJZ) seeks a full-time marketing associate to assist the marketing director in promoting its mission, brand, programs and events. These include its annual Summer Fest, a 3-day music festival each August; Winter Fest, a series of concerts each February–March; year-round, private House Concerts and other membership efforts; education programs including Progressions, High School All Stars and Summer Jazz Camp; and the Boom Box, SJZ’s mobile stage. 

The marketing associate maintains the organization's two websites; executes email and social media campaigns; traffics ad campaigns and production of printed materials; organizes assets such as photos, artist bios, program descriptions and logos; performs simple copywriting and design tasks for print and web pieces; produces emcee scripts; manages seasonal interns; and performs various administrative tasks as needed.

Essential Position Responsibilities

Website

  • Maintain and improve the organization’s two websites, using WordPress CMS to create and update web pages and menu structure, maintaining consistency of brand, layout and style throughout site
  • Source, crop and optimize photos using Adobe Photoshop
  • Edit artist bios and program descriptions for content, style and length
  • Work with an external web developer to improve web functionality
  • Update and troubleshoot interface for each ticketed event and serve as expert on the organization’s ticketing solution

Social Media and Email Marketing

  • With marketing director, plan a top-down program of communications incorporating website/blog content, social media posts and email marketing, to effectively convey the organization’s mission, programs and goals
  • Manage and execute social media efforts by writing and deploying posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Maintain knowledge of current social media trends and platforms
  • Program and deploy regular marketing, education and sponsorship emails utilizing an online email editor

Outreach

  • Schedule and execute SJZ information tables at key initiatives and events
  • Recruit, train and motivate members of the Info Team
  • Create emcee scripts

Graphic Design

  • Design and update flyers and web assets using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, ensuring all deliverables reflect San Jose Jazz brand standards
  • Organize and maintain archives of organization and sponsor logos and artist assets

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in marketing, communications or journalism preferred
  • 1 year experience in a fast-paced marketing role preferred
  • Non-profit experience preferred
  • Superior copywriting and editing skills
  • Adept at online communications; interested in maintaining a high level of knowledge of developing online marketing trends
  • Must be confortable working alone and in teams
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Proficiency on PC platform and related software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Physical Demands

  •  Standard office hours with long periods of word processing
  • Standard office environment with occasional heavy lifting (40lb)
