Got Arts Events? Postings needed for the California Arts Day and National Arts and Humanities Month page!

Summer's over, the days are getting shorter, kids are back in school ... and it's almost California Arts Day! Each first Friday of October is California Arts Day, when art lovers throughout the state celebrate arts and creativity. The event coincides with the National Arts and Humanities month. The California Arts Council publishes arts events on our California Arts Day website, but we need your help. Submit your Arts Day events here. And don't worry if they don't fall exactly on Friday, October 1 -- we'll be celebrating California Arts Day before that date, and then throughout October too!

New ArtWORKS! story: LACER and its after-school program Rock Band Workshop

Twice a week middle and high school students get together and rock out, but it's not in a suburban garage. Rather, their music instruction is part of a successful after-school program called LACER, which provides valuable arts and literacy-based activities to students throughout Los Angeles. Students choose between professionally taught free classes in theater, music, dance, and the visual arts, and LACER relates these classes with the core subjects of English, math, science, and social studies. The Rock Band Workshop is one of the newest and most successful programs. SEE STORY
