Very Small Nonprofits: Should You be Filing a 990-N?

If you're in charge of finances for nonprofit organizations that bring in less than $25,000 and don't think you need to talk to the IRS...please keep reading! The federal agency started requiring Form 990-N the year before last. But all you overworked nonprofit volunteers, don't worry -- the ePostcard notification is easy, and you probably have until May 15 to file it.

California Poet Laureate Nominations Considered on May 10

Literary experts in California will meet in Sacramento on Tuesday, May 10, to review applications for the position of California State Poet Laureate and make recommendations to the Governor. The panel process starts at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to end at 2:00 p.m. The panelists will select the top three candidates for California Poet Laureate, and the California Arts Council will submit those three names to the Governor, who will make the final decision. The California Poet Laureate's two-year term begins upon Senate confirmation.

California Arts Council Chair Recognized by California Lawyers for the Arts

Senator Curren Price (D -  greater Los Angeles), Chair of the Legislative Joint Committee on the Arts, presented California Arts Council Chair Malissa Feruzzi Shriver with the California Lawyers for the Arts "Artistic License" award at a recent Southern California event. Feruzzi Shriver is also a visual artist. Senator Price has supported the California Arts Council by introducing legislation enabling the Voluntary Contribution ("Tax Check Off") for the Arts Council Fund, now in its first year. Feruzzi Shriver was recently named team leader for the California delegation to the Education Leaders Institute, a competitive initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts for state arts agencies.
