The Beach Boys, Carlos Santana and Amy Tan announced for 2011 California Hall of Fame

The California Museum of History, Women and the Arts announced the nominees for the 2011 California Hall of Fame on Monday, September 12, and four of the 10 are renowned California artists or arts patrons. The musical group The Beach Boys, musician Carlos Santana, and novelist Amy Tan will join the ranks of the California Hall of Fame elite in December as will Doris Fisher, California Arts Council member from 1997-2000, (who is being honored for her entrepreneurialism and philanthropy along along with her husband Donald).

Are you a "Crafty Californian?" Create an ornament for the National Christmas Tree!

The U.S. Department of Forestry will be providing 2011's National Christmas Tree from California, and all Californians can participate by sending in a crafted ornament for the outdoor display.  Five thousand ornaments will be needed, and only a percentage of that goal has been collected so far--so get out your craft kits, give the kids a fun project, and help decorate our national tree for the holidays! Deadline is September 30.
