Interim Development Director
The Actors' Gang

Job description

Role of The Actors’ Gang Development Director:

We seek a Development Director with strong leadership skills and a passion for the arts and event development for the theater. This is a part-time position. As the development executive of the organization, the Development Director is responsible for the company’s public outreach and fundraising. 

The Actors’ Gang (TAG) Development Director reports to the Artistic Directors and works in partnership with the Managing Director and Artistic Director as the theater’s executive team. The Development Director plays an integral role in the development and execution of the organization’s development plan in addition to execution of these plans, including:

Audience Development/Earned Income: The Development Director works with staff to plan and implement promotional events for season and single ticket sales campaigns, as well as seasonal, production and program sponsorships.

Fundraising: The Development Director leads and oversees development goals and activities; works with the Board of Directors and staff to identify and cultivate new funding sources, strategize fundraising activities of the theater, lead and oversee the integration of development and community relations with artistic and educational programming; and leads and oversees various fundraising activities such as individual cultivation and solicitation, including special events, corporate giving, government support and foundation grants; Oversees communication with donors and patrons when it relates to fundraising or institutional advancement, ensuring best practices are being used in stewarding our patrons; Oversees the patron database and ensure that best practices are being used in recording and analyzing data.

Planning: works with the Artistic Director, Managing Director, Board, Marketing Manager and support staff to create and execute long-term marketing and fundraising strategies that will sustain the fiscal and operational health of the Theater. 

Board of Directors:  The Development Director assists the Board’s leaders as appropriate with the recruitment, education and development of Board members and works closely with Board committees to engage the members in the service of The Actors’ Gang Theater specifically in regard to fundraising.

Advocate: The Development Director helps to advance the relationship between the theater and various local and regional organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, community and local business groups and arts organizations. The Development Director/ Artistic Director team presents the public face of The Actors’ Gang Theater and the Development Director may be called upon to speak to private and public organizations and to the press. 

External Relations

a. The Development Director serves as a key representative of the theater in the community, including cultivation of donors, funding institutions and government agencies

b. Represents The Actors’ Gang in communication with external agencies that have the power to govern or influence financial or administrative demands within our industry

c. Provides mandatory additional support for and attend meetings, fundraisers, events, celebrations, etc.
