Associate Director of Donor Engagement

Do you believe in social justice and want to enhance cultural diversity by helping donors achieve their philanthropic goals? The Japanese American National Museum is looking for an experienced fundraising professional to join its fundraising team to secure the financial resources necessary to advance the mission of the Museum, especially during this challenging political environment. With a new president and chief executive officer, the National Museum is dedicated to educating people about the experiences of Japanese Americans, especially during World War II, and positioned to play a role in preventing the incarceration of another group based on race from happening again.                                                                  

The Associate Director of Donor Engagement is responsible for managing and implementing donor engagement strategies and plans with the goal to increase philanthropic support from the existing donor base including museum members, volunteers, and supporters.  ADODE will work closely with the Associate Vice President of Development to develop and execute overall donor stewardship plan and activities.

The ADODE will manage a portfolio of 100-150 donors to build upon ongoing productive relationships between donors and the National Museum. S/he will apply the donor-centric approach to deepen relationships and strengthen philanthropic support. The ADODE will work with the Museum’s communications team to provide guidance on donor and member storylines and profiles for museum’s collateral materials. Engages with finance, administrative and program staff in identifying and reaching out to prospects and donors.

The ADODE will draft necessary correspondence and provides follow up generated by point of entry tours, events, and personal visits. Experience with Altru, MS Office and Gmail preferred. Bachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred.  

Career path to this position and qualifications: You are a mission driven candidate with a passion to serve the nonprofit community and make an impact.  You have at least five years of experience in development, donor engagement and/or alumni relations working with a donor centric approach to fund development.  You are enthusiastic in working with donors and understand the donor’s role in advancing the goals of the organization.  You are looking to expand your fundraising professional portfolio by managing and leading a donor engagement program.  You exercise good judgement in working with internal and external constituencies and can work independently as well as on a team.  You are intellectually curious and continue to be a life-long learner in the profession and beyond.
