Creative Media Producer
Asian Art Museum

Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Creative Media Producer is an indispensable partner in the development and implementation of the museum’s public relations strategy at every level: ideation, design, and execution. Performing a wide variety of duties to support internal and external communications and public relations activities, the Producer’s core role is creating and editing original digital videos for online marketing purposes and on-site creative uses, as well as contributing social media content for a variety of the museum’s digital audience engagement platforms.

This creative capacity must draw on a range of technical skillsets that accompany maximum flexibility in time management and resourcefulness; attention to detail; excellent oral and written communication; familiarity with the arts landscape of the Bay Area and nationally.

Additional tasks include some general media relations activities and high-level project and contractor management.


  • Innovate with new media for creative content production, relying on a dexterity with a range of technical equipment (we have all your essential videography tools, including three cameras: C100, 5D M3, and Sony A7s2; a variety of lenses, from Canon L series zoom lenses to Zeiss normals; and an audio recording kit: Zoom H6 and Rodelink lav mics; and even a gimbal). This function will be crucial to producing the digital videos, podcasts and lively still photographs required at key points throughout the museum’s calendar year in support of both internal needs as well as public-facing programs and exhibitions. A comfort reaching out to third-party contractors and/or artists, and managing these relationships with precision and professionalism, will be crucial. Skills include:
    • Videography (shooting, audio recording, and lighting)
    • Photography.
    • Post production: editing, color grading, motion graphics. Essential programs include Final Cut Pro X, Premier, and After Effects. Familiarity with Photoshop and Illustrator a plus.
    • A willingness to spend time upgrading skillsets in this area as needed!
  • Generate communications and marketing materials on a steady basis, provide input on press releases, develop original web copy as well as robust social media content and new media pieces of varying size and scope. Be comfortable with big picture thinking in terms of museum-wide strategies for identifying target audiences, developing these audiences, and securing earned income opportunities as they relate to marketing and communications activities. Be willing to pitch new ideas for exhibition-specific communications projects while maintaining a clear understanding of short-term, near-term, and long-term departmental goals and messaging. The Producer should:
    • Bring new ideas to the table and be prepared to persuade colleagues.
    • Manage consensus when advocating their ideas, grounding this advocacy in experience, observation, and a keen understanding of the Asian Art Museum’s stakeholders and audiences.
    • Translate their vision into articulate creative briefs that can be shared effectively internally as well as with external contractors.
  • Manage daily team operations, including supervising the communication team’s project schedules and deadlines as they relate to the department; overseeing the tracking and analyzing of media coverage; developing media coverage reports for internal and external stakeholders; organizing space reservations, room setup and audiovisual requests for meetings and events; general oversight of the organizing, maintaining, and archiving of files and records for internal and external use, especially museum, exhibition, and program fact sheets and photo captions.
    • Assists in planning and coordinating on-site and off-site media relations events, e.g. media previews for exhibitions.
    • Manages the workload and projects for departmental volunteers and interns and ensures the quality of their work.
    • Responds to various public inquiries.
    • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.
    • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary. 


Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, technical arts or other related discipline, plus 3-to-5 years of related experience in creative media production that directly supports strategic communications; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; graduate degree in the arts a plus, though not necessary. 

  • Asian language skills highly desired.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional project management and administrative skills; extremely organized, detail oriented, and accurate; self-starter.
  • Excellent analytical, research, creative problem solving, and organizational skills; knowledge of market analytics and audience research a plus.
  • Solid word processing, spreadsheet and data entry skills; knowledge of Windows, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and PhotoShop. Familiarity with Meltwater News aggregator a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, determine priorities and follow through on projects.
  • Ability to interact diplomatically with diverse groups of people; establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with staff, media, visitors, the general public and outside organizations and groups.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to thirty (30) pounds.
  • Interest in digital, cultural and popular trends, and savvy in social media, including, but not limited to WeChat, Weibo, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, et al.
  • Event management experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of Asian art and culture a plus.


$29.44 - $35.35 per hour* with benefits package.

*Please note: New hires start at the beginning of the salary range and this position is represented by SEIU 1021.
