Aurora Theatre Company seeks dynamic and strategic Development Director

Located in the heart of the Downtown Berkeley Arts District and now in the midst of its 26th Season, Aurora Theatre Company has been declared “one of the best regional theaters around” by 7x7 magazine, has been called “one of the most important regional theaters in the area” and “a must-see midsize company” by the San Francisco Chronicle, while The Wall Street Journal has “nothing but praise for the Aurora.” The Contra Costa Times stated “perfection is probably an unattainable ideal in a medium as fluid as live performance, but the Aurora Theatre comes luminously close,” while the San Jose Mercury News affirmed Aurora Theatre Company is “arguably the finest small theater in the Bay Area,” and the Oakland Tribune stated “it’s all about choices, and if you value good theater, choose the Aurora.”
The Development Director creates and implements annual and long-term fundraising strategies to advance the work of Aurora Theatre Company and is responsible for raising approximately $1 million of the total $2 million annual budget. S/he supervises and works closely with the Development Manager and Development Assistant, collaborates with the Managing and Artistic Directors, as well as the Board of Directors. The Development Director oversees all fundraising activities for the organization, including major gifts, direct mail and online appeals, special events, institutional giving, and donor stewardship. S/he also serves as liaison to several Board committees and as a senior staff member helps shape the future of the organization.
The ideal candidate will also have a passion for theatre and experience working in a theatre or performing arts organization.
