About the Department
The Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC) includes two venues, a 500-seat auditorium, and the new 1700-seat state of the art proscenium theater/concert hall. VPAC presents about 50 performances per year of world-class artists of all genres and disciplines. Located in the nation's second largest market, Los Angeles, VPAC operates at the highest level of professional and artistic excellence.
Under general supervision of the Director of Audience Services for the Valley Preforming Arts Center (VPAC), the House Manager manages all front of house (FOH) staff and volunteers, assuring professionalism of FOH operations for all events at the VPAC Great Hall/Plaza del Sol(PdS) Performance Hall/Zev Yaroslavsky Rehearsal Room. The incumbent oversees seating, way finding, answering guest questions, guest entry and egress, ticket scanning, distribution of program and marketing materials, lost and found; enforces house policies; recruits, interviews and assists in hiring FOH staff; trains ushers, lead house ushers, concessions and guest services staff in customer service and emergency procedures in coordination with CSUN Department of Police Services; schedules/assigns shifts for ushers, house leads, stage door/backstage and hospitality positions; maintains staffing year-round in online staffing software; maintains constant communication with FOH staff of 70+ to ensure positive working environment and adequate staffing levels; works closely with Ticketing Supervisor to ensure all guests, including those with special needs, are being properly accommodated; creates event summary notes/issue and incident reports/FOH reports; processes/maintains monthly VPAC timesheets; orders/inventories FOH 1st aid supplies at VPAC/PdS; oversees uniform upkeep and inventory; participates in weekly production meetings, rentals scheduling, and pre-production meetings; conducts client tours; fosters campus partnerships; and ensures the highest level of patron experience. The House Manager is required to be present at all presenting, rental, and campus events at VPAC and assist as needed at PdS Performance Hall in coordination with Lead House staff and Director of Audience Services - overseeing the Lobby and House, assisting the guest experience for 100+ events per season. Performs other duties as assigned.
Equivalent to graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a job-related field. Three (3) years of full-time, progressively responsible technical, analytical, or performing arts. Five (5) years preferred; with at least two (2) of the years in a leadership capacity. Additional experience in job-related field may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required education, on a year for year basis. CPR/AED Certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Working knowledge of general practices in Performing Arts, Audience Services, House Management, Theatre or related fields and programs. Working knowledge of operational analysis and techniques. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Ticketmaster ONE, When to Work and Facebook. Ability and specialized skills to: expertly investigate and analyze problems with a broad administrative impact and implications; ability to supervise and/or train others and provide lead work direction. Interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures to develop conclusions and make recommendations; compile, write and present reports related to program or administrative specialty; and communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.

The salary range for this classification is: $3897 - $6326 per month.
The anticipated hiring range: $3897 - $5067, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Hours: Full Time 40hrs/wk; will include evenings and weekends.
This position is a sensitive position as designated by the CSU.
