Programs Producer

Throughout its programs, CIIS strives to integrate mind, body, and spirit within an academic framework that promotes multiple ways of knowing and learning. With a mission to inspire personal and social transformation, Public Programs & Performances acts as an extension of the university offering approximately 120-150 talks and workshops annually including 10-15 large off site performances, multi-faceted conferences, ongoing certificate programs and more. Public Programs & Performances is in a pivotal moment as it works to cultivate new audiences, develop new content areas that fit the Institute's mission and offer new visions for personal and social transformation. The Program Producer is responsible for identifying and implementing the programing directions of Public Programs & Performances events, leading the programming team, assisting with department fundraising, securing support and collaborative partnerships with similar organizations, and managing the website.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about our programs and able to think creatively about how to produce individual workshops, concerts, conferences and lectures, as well as professionalize the entire program by considering the full event experience. The Programs Producer will be responsible for programming major conversations, conferences, and certificate programs, as well as workshops throughout the year. He/she will equally be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and partners including museums, local business, and partnering nonprofits through the Bay Area. He/she will have a constant finger on the pulse of what is trending in the world of arts and ideas events and should be continually strategizing how to identify and reach our existing and new audiences.


Program Development

  • Works closely with Director to implement the programing directions of Public Programs & Performances events
  • Schedules and confirms workshops, talks, and performances for a year round season of events
  • Identifies new content areas to draw new audiences and to advance the direction of Public Programs
  • Assists in identifying and developing new conferences and certificate programs
  • Develops online programming initiatives and oversees technical needs and logistics
  • Creates relationships with publishers and agents to find new presenters
  • Interfaces with CIIS faculty, staff, and students, as well as external agencies on a wide range of program and event issues

Supporting the Department

  • Collaborates with and serves as a resource for all members of the department
  • Serves as representative of program at key events and in the community
  • Assists the Director on all aspects of program production as needed
  • Supervises part-time student employees and student workers effectively

Implementation and Event Production

  • Implements production strategy for all Public Programs & Performances programming
  • Oversees implementation strategy both onsite and offsite
  • Must be willing to work some nights and occasional weekend mornings

Partner Development

  • Develops relationships with key community partners and institutions to create programming and promotional opportunities
  • Strategizes collaborative relationships with programming and promotional benefits

Website Management

  • Directs the CIIS Public Programs & Performances website
  • Manages contractor and student worker assistants to maintain website content
  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of content
  • Collaborates with the Marketing Manager on Public Programs & Performances online visual language


  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree preferred
  • 2-5 years of program development and/or event/program production experience; attention to developing new programming is highly desirable
  • Comfort with managing budgets
  • Experience overseeing complex event implementation
  • Experience negotiating financial terms
  • Experience fundraising for non-profit causes is advantageous
  • Understanding of strategy for collaborative partnerships
  • Experience developing multi-faceted programs
  • Experience managing a website, with CMS experience preferred
  • General knowledge of intellectual content and conversations taking place in popular culture
  • Appreciation for and ability to stay up to date on arts, culture, holistic education and other themes within Public Programs & Performances’ wide programing arc
  • Superior diplomacy skills
  • Professional written and oral communication skills a must
  • Ability to work independently, operate under pressure, prioritize work assignments, and multi-task several ongoing projects
  • Understanding of CIIS's unique culture and ability to develop new audiences
  • General understanding of higher education institutions is desirable
  • The ideal candidate will be flexible, visionary, good natured, collaborative, and will have a sense of humor


Salary commensurate with skills and experience.
