California Arts Council

The California Arts Council may accept donations from the general public to support its programs, services and operations. Donations may also be made as a gift on behalf, in honor or in memory of another person, and donors may request a gift certificate proclaiming support for the arts.

Be advised that the California Arts Council, a state agency, is considered a qualified organization for the purposes of receiving charitable contributions under Internal Revenue Code section 170(c)(1). Your contribution may be tax deductable. Please contact your tax preparer and review the federal tax return instructions for a more comprehensive discussion of limitations. How Else Can I Help?

The California Arts Council suggests getting involved in the Arts in your own backyard. Some suggestions:

  • Visit theaters, art center, performance venues, galleries, and other arts organizations near you
  •  Encourage local school district board members to make the Visual and Performing Arts a priority in the classroom
  • Attend productions and see arts displays from local schools
  • Support arts after-school arts programs and community-based arts organizations and events
  • Become a board member, committee member or general supporter of a nonprofit arts organization
  • Encourage local media outlets to report on the quality organizations in your city
  • Participate in activities related to California Arts Day (first Friday in October) and Arts Education Month (March)
  • Attend conferences and workshops from the California Arts Council, your local arts agency, and other arts-network organizations
